Choosing Age-Appropriate Toys: From Baby to 8 Years

Toys work best when they match your child’s stage of development. Too simple and they get bored; too advanced and they get frustrated. Here is a quick guide.

0–12 months

Bright colours, rattles, soft balls and stacking rings help babies explore with their eyes, hands and mouth. Always choose large pieces with no small parts.

1–3 years

Shape sorters, busy boards, push toys and chunky building blocks support walking, grasping and early problem solving.

3–5 years

Art sets, puzzles, magnetic building toys and pretend play encourage creativity, language and imagination.

5–8 years

Board games, RC cars, musical keyboards and learning card readers build logic, coordination and confidence.
